Altadyn’s more recent application in the 3D virtual universe is 3DXplorer, the first browser-based 3D platform which is both immersive and interactive. It runs on all conventional browsers, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and Opera. The platform can be embedded in any webpage, requires no software installation, is Java-based and allows multiple users with custom-created avatars.
The platform enables easily accessible web applications with a host of possibilities. Altadyn CEO Darius Lahoutifard points to several examples: a client, Larry Rosenthal of Cube3 who designs 3D spaces on Second Life has found reduced costs of production with 3DXplorer, and so now offers both platforms. Also a producer of science fiction-oriented products and content in various media—movies, web, etcetera—he plans to port his content into 3DXplorer. Office Pods, another development from Cube3, utilizes pre-designed, 3D office environments as a ready-to-use solution for customers who prefer an existing 3D space. He supplies the content and 3DXplorer supplies the technology.
GoWeb3D, a Boulder, Colorado and India-based company, has also utilized the 3DXplorer platform. A provider of 3D environments and solutions to both the private and public sector, GoWeb3D has used the 3DXplorer platform for a number of education-related projects, including a 3D environment for debate sessions during the Israeli elections as well as an award-winning, Indian cultural awareness program.
3DXplorer V4, released in 2008, introduced multi-user sessions, customized Avatar capabilities and Online Meeting applications. Recently, Altadyn released 3DXplorer V5. The latest edition enables over 100 avatars interactively within the 3D meeting space with no download. The company also supports the Enterprise Edition which permits fully secure use of the platform on a company’s private network.
