The American Automobile Association had a virtual travel show using the InXpo platform on March 10th featuring Hawaii, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
Exhibitors included AAA, three cruise lines (Carnival, Holland-America, and Royal Caribbean), two hotel chains (Best Western and Starwood), two travel agencies (Pleasant Holidays and Travel Impressions), the Mexico Tourism Board, and the Travel Channel.
Navigation was good. It was easy to move around the exhibit hall and enter the booths, auditorium presentations, and chat areas.
The ambience was pleasant. Upon entering the exhibit hall there was background noise to simulate the noise at a physical exposition hall. The booths featured short TV-commercial style promos. For networking and communications, the attendees could select avatars or upload their photo. Communications for attendees were via text and seemed to be lively. The presentations were live audio with photo-slides appropriate for a travel destination event.
Although the blog area did not seem to be getting a lot of traffic, the chat rooms were doing very well. People wrote specific questions about their vacation destinations and received helpful responses from various AAA and other travel professionals. AAA also had it's own booth with a text chat feature for making travel reservations.
The show offered prize drawings, including a grand prize of airfare with three nights of accommodations in Hawaii, Mexico, or the Caribbean.
Attendance seemed to be at least a few hundred while I was attending, judging from the "Who's Here" feature.
