Changes at the Top for Unisfair—Record Quarter and New CEO

Hoang Vuong has been appointed Chief Executive Officer at Unisfair replacing former CEO and Unisfair cofounder Guy Piekarz. Vuong joined the virtual event platform company in August of 2008 and has served as COO and CFO. Prior to joining Unisfair, Vuong was Chief Revenue Officer and CFO at SideStep.

According to Brent Arslaner, Vice President of Marketing & Channels at Unisfair, Piekarz will remain significantly involved in the company, serving on its Board of Directors “but as an active board member working on the product, technology and strategic relationships.”

“What you are going to see is Unisfair really scaling up the customer facing side of the business. You’re going to see us with a stronger sales and marketing presence as well as expanding customer support.”

The change was announced as Unisfair reported 20 percent first quarter year over year growth in its customer base and ahead of plan. Ariba, Computer Associates and Intuit are among the new companies using Unisfair’s Virtual Event Platform to effectively market to both prospective and existing clients.

“Demand for our technology and service continues to increase as companies explore new means of brand-building and lead generation via virtual engagement,” said Hoang Vuong, CEO, Unisfair. “Our growth reflects a remarkable transformation in how marketers are engaging, educating and nurturing clients and prospects throughout the customer lifecycle.” Second quarter sales are looking better again than the first quarter.

According to Sirius Decision, a leading advisory firm focused on sales and marketing integration, 44 percent of business-to-business organizations have reduced their 2009 marketing spend. This helps account for the rapid adoption of virtual event and marketing solutions.

“The state of the global economy has made it more important than ever for companies of all sizes to focus on spend management—and this, in many cases, means curbing travel and other discretionary spend,” said Tim Minahan, Chief Marketing Officer, Ariba. “But it doesn’t have to mean missing out on marquis opportunities to access information that will help them advance their business strategies and network with peers.”

“Based on the success of Ariba LIVE 2009 Virtual, we will continue to leverage this technology as part of our global marketing efforts moving forward,” noted Minahan.

When asked what trends are emerging so far this year besides just more companies doing more events. Arslaner said, “We’re seeing an increasing interest in persistent year round environments which we call virtual event centers. Marketing departments are more strategically leveraging our platform to engage with clients and organize more frequent events throughout the year instead of tactically planning a single event. Attendance is also increasing 30-40% driven in part by response to travel freezes.

There is a long way to go. The entire world of commerce has yet to embrace the Internet fully. Those who see the wisdom in working with you and your company through Virtual sessions are going to be the companies that produce revenue while some of the other companies go out of business waiting for people to come visit them in their aging shopping malls.
With the introduction of MIFI, anyone, anywhere, can tune in and turn on.
