A new virtual event application called Milicruit, developed for the transitioning and veteran community, should help leading employers interact and recruit talent. Perhaps more importantly, it should help unemployed vets land jobs.
Leading employers such as GE, Verizon, Target, 3M, Ryder, Booz Allen and dozens more will be able to tap into the large array of skills and talents of vets through this new virtual career fair platform. Many vets polished marketable skills overseas and are eager to network, interview, and display their skills to human resource personnel and corporate recruiters.
According to CEO Kevin O’Brien, Milicruit.com was created to address the premise that the traditional recruiting environment of veterans is costly, time-consuming and often times ineffective.
“Given the large number of veterans currently looking to reenter civilian life, and the large number of employers seeking to hire veterans, we designed milicruit.com in an effort to allow both parties to meet and interact in a 3 dimensional online setting,” O’Brien said.
Most Americans want to honor the service of our fighting men and women in uniform, and would love to help them out with a promise of employment. This is nothing new, but because of the current downturn in the economy, things are tough all over. O’Brien said veterans have played a pivotal role throughout our history, and not only as defenders of our country.
“Some of our most prominent business people and leaders have served in the armed forces,” he said. “They have a long history of successfully coupling their military training with the needs of corporations, dating back to the 1700’s. Veterans bring a unique skill set to civilian jobs. They can call on a wide range of real life experiences, training and education that allows them to perform at the highest level.”
Employers know the value of veterans to their companies. Couple that unique skill set with the discipline honed through military service and employers have a recipe for a successful hiring.Next month, O’Brien and his staff will co-host their inaugural event with Hire Heroes USA. Both Milicruit and Hire Heroes invite all veterans to the Inaugural Virtual Career Fair.
According to its website http://www.hireheroesusa.org/, Hire Heroes’ mission is to provide career placement assistance to all returning service men and women. The HHUSA program focuses on providing transition assistance to Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom veterans, specializing in the career placement of those injured or with any level of disability. HHUSA serves veterans from all branches of the military: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, National Guard, Reservists and Coast Guard.
Unlike traditional career fairs that require attendees to travel to an actual location, battle long lines, and perhaps get one minute with a recruiter, O’Brien stressed that the Milicruit events allow you to interact as if in person, but from the comfort and convenience of your home or office, and they are available on demand for an entire month. Registration and participation are free to all veterans. Simply go to the following website and sign up http://www.veteranscareerfair.com.
O‘Brien isn‘t a greenhorn when it comes to the virtual world. He also developed an application for university recruiting called Unicruit, and has eight events planned for the fall. Unicruit and The George Washington University have partnered to offer GWU students, alumni and select employers the opportunity to participate in a career fair experience. The select employers, O’Brien said, have direct access to 10 thousand student registrants for a full 30 days.
Like other unemployed workers in this dismal economy, many veterans are having difficulty landing a job. Milicruit should help them without much upfront cost.“We look forward to helping put hundreds of veterans back to work through our application,” O’Brien said.
Millicruit’s virtual plaza greets guests who can visit up to 75 employer booths and a networking lounge, as well as participate in live chats and video interviewing.
