Recently a Black Hat (hacker's conference) had a flaw in the registration process that would have allowed people to view the video streams without paying. The issue was a test registration page that was accidentally used during the event. The person who found it reported it and it was immediately fixed. No one was able to use it.
There have been reports of other platforms that have had issues all of which have been minor but these are a warning that we need to be more diligent in testing our registration systems and processes. Same goes for physical event producers...I received a letter a few months ago from an event that I had attended saying that their system had been hacked and my credit card information was accessed and to make matters worse, their event was on the subject of ecommerce.
Virtual event and meeting technology has become a common enterprise business marketing, collaboration and learning tool. Enterprises such as AT&T, Cisco, DuPont, HP, Kaiser, Microsoft, and Siemens are using virtual environments to increase business productivity and information exchange with employees, partners/resellers, and customers. As companies deploy virtual environments and solutions the need for elevated security protocols will increase. 6Connex wrote a whitepaper you should read called "
