What IS it about virtual environments?
What can they really offer learning, training and business that makes the effort worthwhile?
How do I decide which virtual platform is "right" for me?
How do I sell the idea to my leadership?
How do I sell the idea to IT?
How do I introduce new people to the environment when they come in?
Just what the heck is the 'real' deal on 'virtual', anyway?
THOSE are the questions we have been thinking about as we have prepared for the TranceFormational Learning Experience 1 - The Medieval Encounter...the 12 week learning experience on our islands in Second Life. While based in SL, we will also talk about (and visit) platforms that represent most of the other current approaches to "virtual".
We have three primary goals for the Medieval Encounter:
- One is to help you clarify just what your current goals are for "going virtual". Your goals will determine what resources and platform you need. Do you want a global audience or stay away from strangers? Do you want to create and build or have others do that for you? What level of interactivity do you need? And, just what the heck does interactivity MEAN in a virtual environment?
- Our second goal is to help you find the answers to the questions that will help you make wise next-choices in the direction you take. Whether you are focusing on learning, training, event management or running a business, it is important to know that virtual environments are not all alike, and no virtual environment is best for everyone. Through 12 active weeks immersed in Second Life, we'll help you find answers to the questions...and get you ready for your next steps in the virtual environment...where ever that might be.
- But our third and biggest goal is to give you an "experience" of being "in" the virtual environment. Until we have that personal and visceral experience of the range of things virtual environments offer, we cannot truly understand the full potential of those environments for learning, training, social interactivity and business. And we're talking "experience"...Medieval Style!!!
We invite you to read more about the Medieval Encounter beginning next week!
