We're in the Process of Doing a Little Survey on Virtual Events & Meetings

We wanted to test out the waters and see how businesses we're utilizing virtual event and virtual meeting solutions. It is not meant to be a formal research report but a quick benchmark of where people are today. You can find a pfd of the current responses here. Though we have under 200 responses currently, some interesting things have been uncovered as well as ideas on how to approach a larger, market study.

Interestingly, everyone was familiar with the term virtual events which was surprising to me but our lists and posts of the survey on social media sites may be skewed toward more knowledgeable people. We targeted corporate, association and media marketing and events professionals to some degree and maybe the topic of survey also pre-qualified people.

Respondents were most familiar with webinars and webconferencing and the least familiar with 3D immersive environments. The 3D immersive numbers were very low compared to the overall knowledge around the theme of the survey. Perhaps the terminology wasn't clear enough which could be an interesting issue that marketers will need to address.

No surprise here--the majority of respondents that produce physical events or meetings were experiencing decreases in attendance (67%) and 75% were concerned about future attendance. But eight-three percent saw a need to add virtual elements to their events or meetings which was surprisingly high to me compared to the event producers I was talking with just 4-5 months ago. This market is evolving very, very fast.
